Truth comes first- knowing the Lord and following Him. Salvation sets you on the true path of life. When God causes you to be born again to a living hope, He cleanses you from all unrighteousness through the death, the shed blood of Christ and He gives you Christ's righteousness. He clothes you in Christ's righteousness. Christ took your sin, your unrighteousness upon Himself and suffered the full wrath of God for it on the cross. He died and rose again victorious over sin and death and imparts that victory over sin to us with His righteousness. We now have power to choose not to sin because God has given us a new heart that desires to please Him. We can only please Him because we are clothed in Christ's righteousness.
So the Breastplate of Righteousness covers the very "heart" of our being. I believe these first two pieces of armor have to do with our salvation. Remember who you are in Christ and this will help you to stand firm, to withstand evil.
We have so much to be thankful to Christ for- rejoice in His goodness to us!
